Staff Profile

ELLEN CARUSO
Group President

Ellen is a graduate of the University of Montana School of Journalism and has been in public relations, association management and government relations since 1969. She is a registered lobbyist and press photographer.

Ellen began her career in Helena, Montana, where she was executive director for a number of trade and professional Ellen Caruso societies in her firm, Association Management Services. Her association accounts included the Montana Bar Association, the Montana Association of Life Underwriters, the Montana Water Development Association and the Montana Legal Services Association. From 1969 to 1973, she represented several of these organizations as a registered lobbyist before the Montana Legislature.

In 1973, she moved to Washington, D.C., and was the first Public Relations Director of Northern Virginia Community College's new Loudoun Campus. Returning west in 1975, Caruso was named Director of the University of Colorado at Denver Alumni Association. In this position, she organized UCD's first legislative relations program and served as legislative liaison during three sessions of the Colorado General Assembly.

Ellen returned to private enterprise in 1980. She is an active member of the American Society of Association Executives and is a member and past board member of the Colorado Society ofEllen Caruso Association Executives. For three consecutive years, she was included in the Denver Business Journal's "Who's Who in Health Care." As an active registered lobbyist in the state of Colorado, she has shepherded several major health care bills through the entire legislative process and through all lengthy and detailed regulatory hearings. At least twice a year she coordinates Congressional lobby missions to our nation's Capitol.

She has studied association management and she works at serving her association clients well. She knows how to help volunteers reach their goals without "burnout" and do the things they find difficult to do. She knows who the experts in the industry are -- the members themselves -- and she makes sure their expertise is put to good use.
