Choices

Our choice of environment and team players.

Caruso Group International is an association and meeting management firm, and a research and management consulting firm, dealing with a wide variety of clientele representing a broad range of industries and professions. Each day is different than the last. Each project, while similar to previous projects, is different in its objectives, client base, budget and audience expectations. While this diversity makes for a more interesting and satisfying job setting, it requires a higher degree of focus and team spirit than may be common in other settings.

We acknowledge the need for balance between work and personal time. We acknowledge our inability to control or to even significantly influence the personal environment. We accept a high degree of responsibility for controlling as many dimensions of the work environment as possible to insure a quality work product and, and to the extent that we can, a high level of professional and personal satisfaction to those who choose to participate in this work arena.

Therefore, we who comprise the CARUSO GROUP INTERNATIONAL team, adopt the following:

  1. As a general setting, we choose a non-smoking environment which promotes productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.

  2. We choose a focused environment in which everyone is at work, the atmosphere is neat and clean, and music is mellow and non-disruptive. Our normal business environment is subject to unexpected challenges, crisis and disruptions; therefore, we choose to control our environmental conditions where we can.

  3. We choose an environment in which all team members have an appreciation and respect for the clients at all Arial, knowing that it is the client that makes it possible for us to pay our bills, earn our livelihood and obtain our professional satisfaction.

  4. We choose an environment in which team members strive for and care about excellence in their work.

  5. We choose an environment in which each team member values, cultivates and shares creativity and innovation with others.

  6. We choose an environment of self-discipline, where (a) each team member is responsible for his or her own punctuality, accuracy, reliability and attitude, and (b) each is willing to seek the help of others in the pursuit of those ends.

  7. We choose an environment that makes maximum use of systems to insure consistency and continuity and in which the team members strive to develop new and better systems for the good of the whole. To this end, we choose to effectively use the telephone intercom system, centralized computer files and any other technologies available to us.

  8. We choose an environment of cooperation in which everyone is willing to help and no one is allowed to hold back, pass the buck, or "put the monkey" on another's back. We acknowledge that a hesitant, reluctant or withheld "willingness" to help may be more detrimental under certain conditions than no help at all.

  9. We choose an environment in which team members hold an appreciation for the value and meaning of work in one's life and in the life of their co-workers. When one experiences a bad work day, as one inevitably does, we will work to maintain an environment that anticipates that others may be experiencing an equally good work day and must have the "space" to enjoy it.

  10. We choose an environment in which each person strives continuously to develop personally and professionally.

  11. We choose an environment that acknowledges personal situations but, to the extent possible, does not allow personal issues to interfere or influence the effectiveness or morale of the team or the company as a whole.

  12. We choose team members who respect the talents and contributions of every other team member and support and share talents and contributions with each other.

  13. We choose an environment free of gossip and secret conversations. Each person shows personal respect and acceptance of other members of the team, or chooses not to be a part of the team.

  14. We choose an environment in which team members exercise initiative in solving problems by exploring options or bringing options to their supervisor when solutions cannot be immediately implemented or answers are in doubt.

  15. We choose an environment in which all players adhere to the principles embodied in the "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" and expect that over time every team member will gain a knowledge of those habits and an awareness of their application to day-to-day life. *

  16. We choose team members who pursue an understanding of the big picture and do not wait to be told of their relationship to the big picture. On the other hand, we choose to insure that everyone within this environment has an opportunity to understand the big picture and to appreciate the value of the company and its place in the well-being of individual team members. We understand that this is a choice – the individual choosing to seek and understand as well as the company choosing to try to advance this understanding – and we choose team members who commit to this level of cooperation.

  17. We choose an environment in which each team member insists upon and coaches others in the adherence to the choices that have been made.

Either we choose, or we do not choose. In making these choices, we commit to doing what is within our capacity to achieve the environment which has been expressed.

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
by Stephen Covey include:

  1. Be proactive
  2. Begin with the end in mind
  3. Put first things first
  4. Think win-win
  5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood
  6. Synergize (use the dynamic power of combining energy, thought, talent, etc.)
  7. Sharpen the saw.
